Vision's Insight

Today’s Word is Vision

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And, most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobs

Recently our world lost a visionary, a man who will be remembered in the same breath as Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Johannes Gutenberg - Steve Jobs. He was the epitome of what having a vision can do; propelling you towards a goal and motivating you despite resistance. Can you imagine the number of obstacles, challenges, naysayers and hurdles, Steve would have faced on the road to developing some of the greatest technological devices ever seen? Many of us are carrying around and utilizing his vision right now, or enjoying Disney movies graced by his brand of genius. I will be reading his biography to gain inspiration for staying true to my own vision!

In addition to the outside hurdles you face on the road to realizing your vision, there are often numerous internal hurdles as well; limiting thoughts and fears and the voice of doubt. Many visions are abandoned in favor of immediate gratification and fulfillment. It can be difficult, especially when faced with your own internal critic and the voice of others, to remain focused on the short term commitment, sacrifice and resiliency needed to eventually realize your dream. There is not one person who has ever achieved their goals, their own personal success, without the external and internal hurdles, as well as a good deal of red tape. This is how Steve Jobs can inspire each of us, by showing a remarkable example of believing in your vision and taking steps towards it every day.

"The only thing that is worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."

- Helen Keller

Vision happens in your brain; your eyes are simply a conduit, relaying information from your environment, passing the sensory detail to your brain which then translates what you are seeing into pictures. Vision in you life is the same thing, it is not what you are currently seeing in your environment, it is what you hope to create in your future events, it happens in your mind. Vision is a driving force and major motivator. Do not let the hurdles that your eyes are seeing fool you, it is an illusion, blocking your ability to clearly see the vision that exists in your mind, where true sight occurs.

"It's not what you look at that matters, but it's what you see." - Henry David Thoreau

Today Ask Yourself:

1. If you knew you could not fail, what vision would you take steps to realizing?
2. What internal hurdles have you allowed to block your vision?
3. What external hurdles have you allowed to block your vision?

It is a sad thing that when we were children and sat in school daydreaming (envisioning)that we were told to stop and pay attention. So, the daydreaming stoppped and so did the freedom of seeing your life differently. Now as adults when we envision our lives going in another direction, we smile to ourselves and hear that voice inside us say stop, it's a waste of time. As Wayne Dyer has said "You have to believe(visualize) it before you see it." Thanks for the great blog.
