Today’s Word is Yes
“The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure.”

Maybe you have seen the movie Yes Man? In it Jim Carrey portrays a man named Carl Allen who is challenged by the guru at a motivational seminar to say YES to every single request, invite and opportunity that crosses his path. Of course, for the movie’s sake this led to some disturbing scenes, with hilarious results. Although in the real life cinema, you cannot morally, safely and responsibly say yes to everything, you can begin to look at what you are affirming in your life. Remember what you say no to creates the space, time and energy for what you want to say YES to! But, are you saying yes to life or are you playing it safe? Are you challenging yourself to move out of your comfort zone? Think of growing pains; you wanted to be as big and tall as you older brother or sister, but that change brought with it a moderate amount of discomfort. Growth necessitates alteration and adaptation, emotionally and physically and so too will worthwhile opportunities; opportunities that you have called to yourself. Anything new brings with it an element of discomfort; nervousness, fear, excitement and doubt. You cannot have the life you dreamed of or the relationships you want by staying completely safe, never venturing and never moving from your safety net. Saying yes to life is a message to the energetic system that you are willing to take the steps and then follow-through in order to manifest your goals. Many people think about, plan and organize their future, but when the door opens they slam it shut. The moment for yes arrives and you say, "maybe or soon or not right now." One way to begin to exercise your yes muscle is to find a way to consistently stretch it. Try something new: take a dance class, join a group, meet new people, offer to do something at work you have always wanted to try but don’t and on and on. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I know the nervousness or discomfort I feel is simply a sign that what I am about to embark on matters, that I want to feel alive and more like myself as a result of tackling this project or activity.
Saying yes to life is a philosophy and a state of mind that opens you to the tremendous amount of opportunity contained within your experiences. Say yes to life and your dreams, and follow-through by embracing the new and the bold. Say yes to your life by creating the space and time and energy with a few well placed and thoughtful no’s. Say yes to your life by caring for and nurturing the only means you have for expression in the physical world – your body. Say yes to your life by laughing more than frowning, loving more the regretting and exploring more than settling. As Carl Allen in Yes Man said, “The era of yes has begun.”
