AWE INSPIRING

PRINCIPLE#12: HAVE REVERENCE FOR LIFE

“By having a reverence for life, we enter into a spiritual relation with the world. By practicing reverence for life we become good, deep, and alive.”

- Albert Schweitzer

There is a miracle happening today. It is most magnificent and awe inspiring and it deserves gratitude and wonder and reverence. It often goes unnoticed and unconsidered and yet it shows up again and again, in one form or another. It is new and fresh and contains within it all the seeds needed to plant possibility and it is breathless with anticipation. Principle twelve is about having reverence for life; this extraordinary coming together and expression of energy and matter and experience. Your life is awe inspiring.

GRATITUDE REVIVES REVERENCE

Reverence for life is the awareness that life is the most amazing mystery and the more you embrace the beautiful, unknown and messiness that it is, the more you will respect, nurture and value yourself, others and the planet you call home. Maybe the reality of your experience and the challenges you are facing have colored over and blocked your ability to see, feel or breathe it in? Maybe you have forgotten your power and your abilities? Maybe you have forgotten that you are connected to Source and can create the life you desire? Maybe you have forgotten that you can guide your thoughts to improve your feelings and manifest your desires? I know I have forgotten a time or two or twenty! I know I have allowed external circumstance to victimize me instead of remind me, to limit me instead of lift me and to intimidate me rather than inspire me. I know reverence has been neglected and the wonder of it all ignored; my knowledge of my connection and potential and purpose contained. Living in the reverence of life inspires you to add value, explore and to soak it in. Gratitude is what reminds you of the extraordinary journey that is this existence, lifting you so that you can see beyond limitations and create miracles by revering the miracle of life. Gratitude is about breathing in the moment and directing your attention to what feels good right now. It is gratitude that revives reverence, increasing your vibration and drawing to you the very feeling, quality and experiences you crave.

“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” - John Milton

BE IN AWE OF IT ALL

Have reverence for life and be amazed. Take moments and survey the landscape; the gifts, the people you love and the life you are creating and be amazed every day. Your very existence is mind boggling, the function of the body a miracle, the planet a treasure trove of “take your breath away” opportunities. From the very concept of being, to the wonders of nature, to great food and a great book, to how the sun hits the window and the sound of the piano, big and small it is all inspiring. Relish in the mysteries, magnificence and magnitude of love, creation and experience that is possible. Reverence and wonder creates possibility and respect, openness and compassion and is the cornerstone of personal and social change.

TWELVE TIPS TO APPLYING THIS PRINCIPLE

1. The key is awareness – pay attention.

2. Slow down.

3. Adopt a practice of gratitude.

4. Honor life by honoring your body.

5. Take pleasure in the simple things in life.

6. Get outside and enjoy nature.

7. Watch how children relish in every moment.

8. Foster curiosity, ask questions and search for answers. The more you learn, the more awe inspired you will be.

9. Guide your thoughts towards that which makes you feel good and positive. You have a choice.

10. Be curious – read, watch movies and meet with people who are fascinated by life.

11. “Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.” Seneca

12. Be astonished by life – your very being, good food, the courage of the human spirit and the sound of the symphony – be astonished by it all.

Thanks for the reminder. All to often we are thinking about the things that have to be done tomorrow instead of being in "awe" that we have the opportunity to live with those we love another day. I am grateful every morning that I get another chance to make the changes to my live that I know are possible and all the possibilites have been re-inforced in your blogs. I am grateful to have you in my life to help me see the rainbow in my darkest days.
