GIVE PAUSE

 I INVITE YOU TO:

Take A Pause

“Now and then it's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.” ~ Guillaume Apollinaire

We live in a society permeated by speed and the illusion of efficiency. Even  high speed Internet needs high speed. I have mentioned before this incessant need to do, have and be it all; all at the same time. Racing around fulfilling and achieving, all the while jamming in the things we say are most important – self care, family and fun for instance. Never has the necessity of taking a pause been more apt and more needed, but how many times have you waited for the pause to be taken for you? How many times have you been forced to cease, desist, take a break, lay low, relax? Your life, your body, needs certain things beyond food, water and shelter. It needs nurturing and care. Your mind needs to recharge to be creative and your soul needs space to be and renew. It is not weakness, laziness or indulgence to pause; it is the hallmark of an evolved and realized individual.

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT

A pause need not be a long vacation or stretches of time not working, although highly recommended as well. A break can be anything and everything that allows you to reset, recharge and renew. Oftentimes people will avoid pausing because they are uncomfortable with the voices, the subconscious programming that shows up in the quiet spaces. “You do not deserve a break, winners do not quit, lazy people sit around, what if I miss out on something important, there is always too much to do…” We can all think of a time when we were working away, feeling frustrated because something did not add up or we could not figure it out, only to leave it and go for a walk, read a book or talk to someone and wham, the answer was suddenly clear as a day. Or the experience of going away and looking forward to getting back to your routine, fired up with new ideas because of what you have seen or done. Just as music exists in the space between the notes, so too does your life.

“You need to make time for your genius to flow. We get our creative bursts, those idea torrents that take our business and personal lives to the next level, while we are skiing or drinking coffee in a Starbucks or walking in the woods or meditation with a sunrise.” ~ Robin Sharma

TAKE THE TIME

You can take three deep breaths, five minutes to listen to your favorite music, ten minutes to curl up with your favorite book, fifteen minutes of walking, twenty minutes of meditation, one hour visiting with a friend, one day off or a week-long vacation, but the goal of any and all of these is to engage in the moment and press pause on the to do and just be. I believe people are missing the profound nature of the pause. The pause is an invitation to experience life, the opportunity to choose how to spend your time, who to spend it with and to pinpoint those things that are truly engaging. You are not meant to have it all – you are meant to decide what you want, who you want to be with and how you want to live so that you can be your all. I invite you to pause more throughout the day. Take the time before time is taken for you.
